2012 in Review: Crime Stories in Bellmore

The police have been busy in Bellmore during the past year.

Here's a round-up of the top stories concerning Bellmore that were featured on Bellmore Patch.

10. Police: Bellmore Man Drove with .27 Percent BAC: While interviewing the vehicle operator, Douglas Cress, 62, of Bellmore, a New York State Trooper detected a strong odor of alcohol. Cress failed sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for DWI.

9. Bellmore Man, Former Teacher Arrested on Child Porn Charges: Alfonso Marino, a former New York City substitute teacher, was arrested by agents of the Department of Homeland Security. He was found with various pornographic images featuring minors as young as 7 years old.

8. Officials Call for Town Clerk's Resignation After Arrest: Supervisor Kate Murray and other Hempstead Town officials called for the resignation of Town Clerk Mark Bonilla after his arrest. 

7. Police: Man in Critical Condition After Assault at Merrick Road SaloonNassau County Seventh Squad detectives investigated an assault at a saloon located along the Bellmore-Wantagh border that left three men with head injuries including one in critical condition.

6. Zachary Parker Gets Jail Time: Zachary Parker, the Merrick man at the center of a scandal involving top brass from the Nassau County Police Department, was sentenced to jail time for violating his probation.

5. Man Arrested for Stalking Teens in BellmoreA Woodmere man was arrested after he tried to lure two teenagers to his car in Bellmore on separate occasions.

4. Police: North Bellmore Man Found with Crack Cocaine, Daughter in CarAccording to police, David Kruger, 41, was seen driving a 2001 Nissan with a defective brake light westbound on Violet Street in Massapequa. During an investigation, a clear plastic bag containing what appeared to be crack cocaine, protruding from an open pack of cigarettes, was found on the passenger seat.

3. North Bellmore Woman Who Allegedly Killed Ex-Husband Arrested for Beating Mother: Nancy Boland, a North Bellmore woman who was arrested in November 2011 for killing her ex-husband and then dumping his body in the woods along the Wantagh State Parkway, was arrested for allegedly beating her mother with an aluminum cane.

2. Bellmore Man Arrested for Flying Plane Below FAA Regulated Altitude: A Bellmore man was arrested after allegedly flying his plane at altitudes of 200 feet back in June near Kennedy High School.

1. UPDATE: Kids Find Parents in Homicide, SuicideFour children returned to their North Bellmore home after school to find their mother dead on the floor of the laundry room and their father locked in an upstairs bedroom.

The NBUFSD BOE has not mentioned cutting bussing in over a year, it is not a part of the 2013-2014Read More budget. The pensions and benefits are not regulated by the BOE it is a state mandate.

Eliminating the CHSD is a great idea but it needs to be voted on by the citizens of all 4 districtsRead More . In BM we have 5 set of administration - North Bellmore, Bellmore, North Merrick, Merrick and CHSD . Pensions are a are a state and national battle NOT local

Well for starters, why not give candidates 401K's and only pay a proportion of their benefits...HireRead More teachers and adm that actually live in our district...... Has anybody proposed dismantling the high school district......From the way I understand they have tried unsuccessfully to combine, well then how about saving moneu and splitting up the 3 high schools...This was we wont need 2 administrations...... I will try and I will think out of the box!

So Lu Scala never had any children so it might be safe to say you have never been to a PTA meetingRead More or a School Board meeting or a budget presentation so then you would have no idea how the money is spent good or bad. I'm sorry that your neighbors make more than you but like anything else you get what you pay for there are educational requirements for teaching and administration jobs, I'm sure you would be happy if all the school personnel could be replaced by minimum wage earners or better yet we could close all the schools after all you have been out of school for 40 years so you don't need them anymore, but thats not how it works. Why is always the uninformed that speak loudest and longest?

I never had any kids.. and am the last kid who went to to the Bellmore Merrick school system.....itsRead More been almost 40 years since I was a Mempham grad..and it is very disharting to hear that my many many high tax dollars..are not enought for these kids I have been sororting all these years!!! Who is getting all the money??? Its all bull.. aI live inbetween teachers.. how is it they can afford high end cars, housekeepers, landscapers, ect??????... the money is being spent in the WRONG WAYS TO THE TEACHERS, AND MOST OF ALL THE ADMISTRATION, THE SCHOOL BOARD ECT... I AM CALLING FOR A MASSIVE AUDIT AND GET0 per year.. they afe not worth any more then that.. THE MONEY BACK FROM ANYONE WHO WAS PAID MORE THEN $75,00....
