Field of Honor, Food Drives, Vendor Fair This Weekend

Some events this weekend you might want to check out.

If you're looking for something else to do this weekend other than relaxing, you've come to the right place.

2013 Field of Honor

  • Each year the Farmingdale Kiwanis Club sets up a "Field of Honor" on the lawn of the Farmingdale library with the help of the Farmingdale High School Key Club and some of the local Boy Scout troops.
  • The "Field of Honor" will consist of up to two sets of Military Flags (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard & POW/MIA) on either side of a field of (200) 3x5 ft American flags (made in the U.S.A) that are placed in precision rows, dedicated to thanking all of our veterans who served, are currently serving and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to provide us with the freedom we all enjoy. 
Fifth Annual Strides for Stripes Zebra Walk
  • CCAN’s Zebra Walk helps raise money for programs that assist NET cancer patients & brings awareness of carcinoid /NET cancer. 
  • Ongoing programs like our NET Cancer Hotline and patient conferences.
  • Your participation helps make life better for thousands who suffer from this disease. Carcinoid /NET cancers are known to affect over 125,000 patients in the United States. Another 12,000 people are diagnosed annually.
Sister Act: A Musical Revue
  • These singing  sisters will take you on a musical journey through the history of popular music. 
  • Watch as Andrea and Celsete perform fully costumed in this multimedia show. 
  • Imagine Barbra Streisand, The Supremes, Janis Joplin and Madonna singing together.
Thomas Jones and the History of the Massapequas
  • John Hanc, Newsday writer and author of Jones Beach: An Illustrated History, will be speaking about the life and times of Thomas Jones, in commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the death of this great man.  
  • Thomas and Freelove Jones were the first non-native American settlers of the Massapequas, and Mr. Hanc will speak to us about the important historical legacy that they have left behind.
Food Drive and Open House
  • The Center for the Alignment of Body, Mind and Spirit will be hosting an open house and food drive on Saturday from 3–5 p.m. 
  • Talk with their staff of Health Care Professionals regarding Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Massage, Reiki, Nutrition Counseling and Spiritual Counseling and meet Psychic Medium, Kim Russo, World Renowned Psychic to Celebrities and Star and Host of the hit TV Show "The Haunting Of..."
East Meadow Kiwanis Waldbaums Holiday Food Drive
  • East Meadow Kiwanis needs your help. Last year, we delivered Thanksgiving dinners to 104 local families living under trying circumstances. This year, that number may grow.
  • We depend on donations from East Meadow residents to supplement our fundraising activities throughout the year. Our tables will be set up this weekend in front of Waldbaums.
  • We'll be happy to accept non-perishable food and/or monetary donations of any size. Please stop by, and help make a difference.
Holiday Shopping Day Vendor Fair
  • Come browse and Shop at our holiday fair. Many vendors including jewelry, household items clothing, Judaica Christmas items and more.
  • Snack bar and free admission.
Conflict Resolution: A Spiritual Approach
  • Discover how you can get involved in healing conflicts in your life and in the world, from century-old, divisive national conflicts to a family fight.
  • John Tyler, a former labor union organizer, has degrees from both Princeton University and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques, Paris, and taught political science at Princeton and the University of Pittsburgh, before becoming a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing. 
  • He now travels internationally speaking about the power of prayer to promote health and healing in people’s lives.
Harvest Dinner
  • On Saturday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m., the Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church, located at 1845 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh, will be hosting their famous Harvest Dinner.  
  • Roast turkey with gravy will be served along with all of the trimmings - stuffing, mashed and sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, string beans, cranberry sauce, rolls and home baked desserts.  
  • Seating capacity is limited, so please make your reservations early.
