Whiz Kid: Alec Schnur

Highlighting kids that inspire the community.

This week's Whiz Kid is Alec Schnur!

  • Name: Alec Schnur
  • School: Kennedy High School
  • Grade: Senior
  • Key Accomplishment: Schnur collected 1,000 pairs of glasses by putting collection bins all throughout the community and donated them to the OneSight organization in which the glasses will be given to those who cannot afford them.
  • Keys to Awesomeness: Schnur participated in a clinic at Camp Mariah in Fishkill, N.Y. Children attend Camp Mariah for free because they cannot afford to go to camp. In the clinic, all the children have their eyes checked because they cannot afford vision care. In addition, Schnur is also a recycling officer of the Help Our Planet Earth Club which has more than 100 members. He manages the recycling program at Kennedy by ensuring the distribution of paper and plastic bins to every classroom and the collection of the paper and plastic every week. He spreads the idea that one person can make a big difference in his or her environment. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Mathematics Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and the varsity soccer team.
