Whiz Kid: Darwin Shen

This week's Whiz Kid is Kennedy senior Darwin Shen!

• Name: Darwin Shen
• Grade: Senior
• School: Kennedy High School
• Accomplishment: National Merit Scholar.
• Key to Awesomeness: Shen has been selected as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society and the Science Honor Society. He is an AP Scholar expecting to complete ten AP courses by the time he graduates. Shen has also placed second and third at the Science Olympiad, and has participated in the Nassau County All-Star Math Team, Nassau County Interscholastic Math Team, Nassau County Math Tournament, Al Kalfus Long Island Math (Research) Fair, and is currently the president of the Kennedy Math Club.
• Shen is on the school varsity tennis team. As a talented musician, he has participated in NYSSMA Level 6, receiving a score of 100 on the piano, and has been a member of the school band.
• Shen has volunteered at Nassau Extended Care Facility entertaining and reading to elderly residents. He has completed summer research and study programs at New York University Langone Medical Center and Johns Hopkins University. Shen will be attending the University of Pennsylvania.
