The School Dance That Almost Never Was

North Bellmore parents come together to plan last-minute school dance in a matter of hours.

Only the final touches needed to be added to Thursday night's sixth grade dance for Newbridge Road School. That's when parent Lisa Schwab said she received an anonymous phone call advising her to head to the catering hall.

The caller told Schwab, a representative from the sixth grade parent committee, that the Manor East was 'getting evicted and all the furniture's being moved."

Nassau County Sheriffs parked outside the Massapequa-based caterers oversaw what a creditor’s attorney said was the caterer’s eviction for defaulting on a loan, according to WABC-TV.

Parents scrambled together to figure out plan B.

Mark Schwab, Lisa's husband, belongs to the Alpha Sigma Fraternity, and they offered their waterfront property on Beach Street to the kids to use for the dance.

"Well, my daughter goes to school there," he said. "When we heard that the Manor East was closed, we offered them to use the facility so they could have it last minute."
