Editor's Note: This article was written and submitted by Edward J. Kraus.

Dear Editor,

At this time I am writing to you in reference to my desire to be elected to the Board of Fire Commissioners of the North Bellmore Fire District.

I have dedicated the last 12 years to the North Bellmore Fire Department, serving as a Lieutenant, Captain, and most recently as a Chief with the Department from 2008 to 2012. I would like to continue my service to the community in a leadership capacity as a Fire Commissioner.

I am the fourth generation in my family to serve as a volunteer firefighter in Nassau County. I am a graduate of Chaminade High School and the New York State Fire Academy. I currently work as a career firefighter as well as a 2nd Deputy Chief Instructor at the Nassau County Fire Academy.

I am a member of the County, State and International Fire Chiefs Associations. I am currently serving as the Vice-Chairman of the Nassau County 6th Battalion Fire Chiefs Association.

I have been involved in almost every aspect of the North Bellmore Fire Department throughout my tenture, including training, equipment design, recruitment/retention, community relations and much more.

I am a lifelong North Bellmore resident and have been married to my wife, Jennifer Sharkey, since 2009. We purchased our home in North Bellmore in 2009, where we live with our two young sons, Edward III and Joseph.

I am currently is running for the position to keep fire district taxes at a low rate while maintaining emergency services to the community at a high standard in the future.  There are many facets to keeping a volunteer fire department well equipped, trained and organized while keeping cost to the community low.

I believe that I have the experience, knowledge, and dedication to provide this service to the residents whom I have been proud to serve over the years.

Very Truly Yours,
Edward J. Kraus
