Bellmore Resident Arrested for DWI, Possession of Marijuana After Single-Car Accident

Defendant provided a positive breath sample of .17 percent blood-alcohol content.

A Bellmore resident was arrested this past Friday, June 17, on the Northern State Parkway for driving while intoxicated and marijuana possession.

According to the New York State Police, at approximately 9:20 p.m., a state trooper was dispatched to a one-car auto accident on the Northern State Parkway eastbound at exit 36B – the exit for the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. When the trooper arrived on the scene, she noticed a white Dodge with damage to both the front and rear end.

While interviewing the operator of the vehicle, Andrew Marsh, 22, of North Bellmore, the trooper observed a beer bottle and a marijuana pipe inside the vehicle. The trooper later recovered six lorazepam pills inside the vehicle, police said.

According to police, the trooper noticed Marsh had bloodshot and watery eyes, and also detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. Marsh failed field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for DWI.

Investigation revealed that Marsh was westbound on the LIE and traveled onto the ramp to the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway – State Route 135 – southbound, police said. Once on State Route 135, Marsh lost control of his vehicle and struck the guardrail on the right shoulder of roadway. He exited the next ramp onto the Northern State Parkway eastbound and contacted 911.

The defendant provided a positive breath sample of .17 percent blood-alcohol content. He was arrested for DWI, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and traffic violations.

He is due in Nassau County First District Court on July 13 at 9 a.m.

The charges are only an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
