Louis Esposito, of Bellmore, was arrested after fleeing a hit-and-run accident on the Southern State Parkway.

A Bellmore man was arrested after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident on the Southern State Parkway Monday night.

Louis Esposito, 52, of Bellmore, was arrested by New York State Police after attempting to flee the scene of an accident and then attempting to flee from police after being located, police said.

According to the New York State Police, a trooper was dispatched to a two-car hit-and-run accident that occurred on the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway near exit 25 around 6:30 p.m.

Police said that after arriving at the scene of the accident, the state trooper interviewed the operator of a gray Nissan, who stated that he was rear ended by a blue Oldsmobile that left the scene. The operator of the Nissan was able to give license plate information and a physical description of the occupants to the trooper.

According to police, the trooper then canvassed the area for the suspect's vehicle when she located a vehicle fitting the description at a Mobile Gas Station on Bellmore Avenue south of the Southern Parkway. After a brief foot pursuit, the Esposito was taken into custody without incident.

Esposito was arrested for Felony Unlicensed Operation, Resisting Arrest, Using a Vehicle Without an Interlock Device, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Auto Accident and other traffic violations.

Esposito was held for arraignment in Nassau County First District Court.

Some people are just plain stupid, and Mr. Esposito is one of them.

He associates himself with a convicted felon and heroin addict Amy Schmutzer who is also known in the area to be a vagrant. What a pair!
