A Look Back: One-Year Anniversary of Hurricane Irene

The storm wreaked havoc on Long Island, including Bellmore.

It was one year ago today that Hurricane Irene made its presence felt on Long Island, and Bellmore was no exception to that.

Throughout the storm, Patch was there to provide contant updates, whether it was on the numerous power outages in the area or various photo galleries of the storm's impact.

Fortunately, there were no injuries in the Bellmore area due to Hurricane Irene, although there were plenty of hazardous conditions that presented risks.

We also called on you to and you sent us shots of trees that were uprooted, and backyards that were destroyed, among other things.

There was also the case of Bellmore businesses that took the time to entertain those that were without power after Irene left the area.

Bellmore resident Patti Kutil chose to stay home during the storm, and she lost a few pictures of herself in her younger years, a quilt that was given to her as a wedding present was damaged and her wedding dress was destroyed. She also lost her bedroom furniture and her 12-year-old daughter's bedroom suffered some water damage.
