Question of the Day: How Will You Vote on Aug. 1?

Sound off on the daily hot topic.

This Monday, Aug. 1, is the day everyone has been talking about since Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano partnered with New York Islanders owner Charles Wang and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray back in May to announce the plans for a new Nassau Coliseum.

Monday's referendum vote will essentially decide the fate of the Islanders on Long Island, as well as the immediate future of taxes in Nassau County.

With the vote just around the corner we want to know, how will you vote on Monday?

Tell us in the comment section below!

Mangano is not capable of making prudent decisions. He does not address the issues since he has no understanding of them. As was Gulotta as was Suozzi as is Mangano ,they are political louts with train wreck financing ideas. Balancing the budget by borrowing and selling off leases. In debt and going into more debt. Paying 2.2 million for a special election because he wants it now. This is daft. Vote No

How does this enrich Wang when the town will own the coliseum? If this is some scheme to make millions of a bankrupt county, then why did he offer billions just a couple of years ago? The one thing i notice about the No voters, they seem to be all about the tax hike, not about their community.
Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:30 PM
dooley, why don't you explain it to us. You yap & yap, but no proof of anything!
Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:31 PM
Tell us the facts dooley! Please humour us.
Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:35 PM
Stop with the "pay for it yourself" argument! He tried! Your elected politician declined! God forbid there is traffice, that would mean people are coming to spend money, how awful. Selfish. And dooley, please don't bring up the intelligence of Nassau county. The lack of it is the reason your bankrupt and refused Wangs billions!
Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:37 PM
Tell us why this is unsound? Tell us why you know better?
Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:40 PM
He offered! Why is it no one seems to know that? Was it kept a secret by Kate Murray?
Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:42 PM
I'll assume you have no kids or grand kids.

Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:48 PM
No dooley, private investors are too smart to stay in the TOH.
Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:52 PM
Develope the area? Are you nuts? Who wants to invest in a town that has no population growth and is bankrupt? The Islanders are the only thing generating your economy.
Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:53 PM
dooley, just give one hard fact backing your case, PLEASE!!!
Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:55 PM
the fact that dooley is on your side should be enough to vote Yes.
Manny July 31, 2011 at 11:58 PM
If this is true, why do your comment have no facts and sound like their coming from a child?
Manny August 01, 2011 at 12:07 AM
If you want to know what you're up against, just look at the comments. The No side either wants Wang to build it, or don't want to pay for a tax hike. Well, that shows 2 things. 1) the No side has no clue what's going on because Wang did offer to pay for it. 2) they are cheap. I'm sorry, but i can't think of a place that wouldn't pay 14$ a year to own a venue where they can take their kids to see all kinds of shows. So, let's not fight them, let's inform them. Post links that prove the Yes sides points. But let's be fair also, let's post the negative points too. We all have to be fair to the situation. Let's not be dooleys.
dooleyman August 01, 2011 at 12:08 AM
manny how are you voting?
dooleyman August 01, 2011 at 12:21 AM
Manny' have you studied the numbers? Are you aware of the amount of debt service that this type of investment requires ? Do realize that a negative cash flow will result from this folly? Are you aware that Wang can sell the team after two years? Are you aware that the county is in debt? Are you aware that the county cannot balance its budget? Are you aware that the county wants to borrow 80 mil and sell future leases to balance the budget? The dooleyman has spent over 40 years in finance and sees this as an unsound financial plan. voting no is my plan . please vote after you spend sometime studying the facts.
Manny August 01, 2011 at 01:00 AM
If you think i or any the other yes voters haven't studied the facts, you're nuts. I think we all no this was not plan A. But since the corupt TOH politicians voted down Wangs billions, this is a good plan B. To touch on some of your questions, yes, i know the town is in debt. Do you think the alternative of having no one at the coliseum is a good idea? What does the counties inability to balance a budget have to do with Wang? That's the residents fault for allowing these politicians in. And yes, Wang could sell the team after a couple of years, and he probably will. But the agreement guarantees the Islanders stay for another 30 - 40 years, regardless of who owns it. Why don't you mention that this will be your venue? And that you will get revenue from all the events? And that Wang is going to pay all costs past the 350 mil he's asking for? I'm not trying to change anyones vote, i just don't understand the logic of a) refusing his billions in the first place b) thinking that someone else is going to invest in the town c) that doing nothing is going to get you out of debt d) that an independant group, whose name is on the line, would be wrong with their figures. e) this idea that Wang is out to screw a bankrupt county Believe me, Wang could make millions elsewhere. And if you're going to ask me why doesn't he just do that, well maybe it's because he wants to help out and do what's right, unlike your elected politicians.
Kathleen August 01, 2011 at 01:26 AM
No is my vote. I don't believe in spending money you don't have The county, the state and the country do not have money. We the tax payers of Nassau County don't have money for higher taxes. Vote No. Politicians have had their way with our money for long enough it is about time we stood up for ourselves and vote for ourselves not for the good of a politicians career. Politicians got us into this mess we the tax payers can vote in a way to let them know we have had enough. Vote No
Betsy August 01, 2011 at 02:01 AM
The county already has a shortfall of about 140 MILLION as reported in Newsday, now is not the time to sink the county further in debt to the tune of 400 MILLION. Although the coliseum is a dump and the only "county owned" arena in the NHL now is NOT the time - spending money we don't have is one of the reasons the US is in a financial tailspin - have we learned nothing since the market crash?? Didn't your parents ever teach you, "You can't spend money you don't have!" Vote NO
Manny August 01, 2011 at 02:19 AM
You're right, this is the politicians fault. But voting No is not the solution. There is too much at stake with regards to the coliseum. As i said earlier, vote Yes. Give the future residents a chance to see a show in their own arena. But come November, both sides should vote these corupt politicians out. They are the reason Wangs billions were refused. They are the reason you are bankrupt. They are the reason no one wants to invest in your town. And they are the reason it's come down to tomorrows vote.
Manny August 01, 2011 at 02:23 AM
If this was 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago i would agree. But Now is the time. Unfortunatly, due to corupt politicians, there isn't much time left. If you wait, the team will have no choice but to move. Then what? Is anyone, including the private sector, going to want to build a venue without a guaranteed tenant?
Vincent August 01, 2011 at 09:59 AM
Manny, areyou related to Eric N? Well I'moff to be the first at my polling location down the street. If they didn't change the location since Friday that is..
An tUasal Airgead August 01, 2011 at 11:54 AM
Whatever your position, GET UP AND GO VOTE!! DO NOT RELY ON OTHER PEOPLE TO VOTE YOUR WAY because you are too lazy to do it yourself! If you hate this deal (as I personally do) then GET UP AGAIN, in NOVEMBER and vote out anyone that had a part in it! Vote again in the following elections to do the same! Wang is a businessman. If someone offered you a good deal, you would take it too. Don't blame Wang, blame the game .... the game being played by the current administration in Mineola! These people are in office because we put them there. You can type all the comments you want to, but if you don't exercise you right to vote, because it may be inconvenient, then you are part of the problem too.
Mac August 01, 2011 at 02:22 PM
Bob I agree 100% regardless of your opinion go vote. This shouldve been in Novemeber but it is politics as usual. ANt is also correct but I do beleive that this isnt the sweetheart deal for Wang people portray it as. But go vote and dont be part of the problem.
An tUasal Airgead August 01, 2011 at 02:39 PM
Damn, now I have to spend part of this beautiful day getting my eyes examined, because when I read the comment it looked like Mac said I was correct about something. Either my eyes are bad, or hell just froze over!
Mac August 01, 2011 at 03:00 PM
It is a little cold out there!
JeremyNY August 01, 2011 at 03:40 PM
Let's NOT forget that this is KATE MURRAY's fault...
