Thousands Attend Bellmore Family Street Festival

The event has taken place in Bellmore for 27 years.

Jon Margulies has been going to the Bellmore Family Street Festival for as long as he can remember.

"I have gone every year for most of my life," the 25-year-old said.

Margulies along with thousands of others attended the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores' 27th Annual Bellmore Family Street Festival over the weekend.

Attendees enjoyed two days of food, rides, expos and entertainment.

Debby Izzo, president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores, said that she was extremely pleased with this year's turnout.

"Mother Nature has been good to us once again and our street festival was very successful," she said. "We had many new attractions this year and we plan to add on even more next year."

Some of the new additions included a magic show, a reptile show and a mechanical bull.

On Sunday afternoon, Bedford Avenue and Sunrise Highway was flooded with people basking in an array of succulent foods, rides and local vendors.

Cathy Rosario has attended the street fair for the last 15 years. She came to this year's festival with her husband and two children.

"We love it," she said. "It has some really good food and a good atmosphere."

Melissa from Massapequa came to the fair for the first time with her niece, Danielle.

"We loved pretty much everything," she said. "It is a nice sized fair."

On Sunday, Margulies enjoyed his second day of the festival.

"I came the first day with my brother, Ben, and took him on the rides," he said.

On his second day, he went with his girlfriend, Allison D'Ottavio.

"I love all the little shops," she said.

Margulies said that he won't stop his tradition of attending the fair each year.

"It's great because you run into a lot of people that you know and you see your local businesses," he said. "It's very Long Island."
