Hundreds Gather for Menorah Lighting in Bellmore

On the last day of Hanukah, hundreds gathered at Veteran's Memorial for the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmore's Annual Menorah Lighting on Wednesday evening. 

Residents, business owners and elected officials enjoyed a night filled with prayer, singing and coming together.

Rabbi Dahlia Bernstein of the Bellmore Jewish Center said that she was moved by the event.

"I want to acknowledge how beautiful it is that we live in a community that embraces people of all traditions," she said. 

Bellmore residents enjoyed the night also.

Elyane Berkowitz said that she attended the Menorah lighting for many years.

"I think this is wonderful," the Bellmore resident of 50 years said. "It is great for all of us to come together and do this." 

Ross Kapitansky came out with his 5-year-old daughter, Samantha.

"It's really nice that the Jewish community can come together and celebrate in a public forum," he said.

Chamber president Debby Izzo said that she was pleased with the event.

"I was very happy with the turnout," she said. "It is a beautiful night and the sky is clear."
