Nearly 100 firefighters and nine fire departments battle late-night blaze in North Bellmore.

A raging fire engulfed and destroyed a North Bellmore home early Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. Sunday morning, several fire departments arrived at 2810 Genessee Street to battle an inferno, which quickly engulfed the basement and first floor of the home.

According to North Bellmore Fire Department Chief Edward Krauss, the first engines on the scene encountered heavy fire in the front and rear of the home.

A neighbor, who had also called in the fire, quickly alerted the first responding units that the home was empty, Krauss said.

The fire on the first floor created a hole on the floor, which forced the responding units to battle the fire from the exterior of the home, Krauss added.

Nobody was injured during the fire. The cause of the fire is still being determined.

On the scene were the North Bellmore, Bellmore, Wantagh, Baldwin, East Meadow, Levittown, Oceanside, North Merrick and West Hempstead Fire Departments.
