Bellmore Native Named To NSCAA All-Region Team

Salma Tarik named to NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region team after finishing season with 12 goals.

Hempstead, N.Y. - The Hofstra Women's Soccer team had four players named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Mid Atlantic Region team, including senior midfielder Tiffany Yovino (Holtsville, N.Y.), who became the first four-time all-region selection in school history.

Yovino and senior forward Salma Tarik (Bellmore, N.Y.) were both named to the NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic first team, while junior midfielder Brittany Butts (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) was named to the second team and junior midfielder Courtney Breen (Hicksville, N.Y.) was chosen to the third team.

Yovino was a third-team all-region selection as a freshman in 2007, and has been a first-team selection for each of the last three years. She was one of five Hofstra players to earn all-region honors three times heading into this season (along with Marie Curtin, Edel Malone, Becky Wachsberger and Sue Weber) and became the first to ever earn the distinction four times. She was also named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, making her the first player in program history to earn conference player of the year accolades, and was a first-team ESPN CoSIDA Academic All-American as well.

Tarik was also a first-team all-region selection for the second year in a row. She and Yovino both had 12 goals this season to tie for team-high honors, while Tarik finished her Hofstra career with 28 goals in only three years after transferring from Cal State Northridge. The 28 goals ranks third all-time in Pride history, behind only Christa Eidenweil (1997-2000) with 39 and Suzanne Newell (1994-97) with 36.

Butts was a first-team All-CAA selection this season and earned all-region honors for the first time in her career. Butts had two goals and one assist on the year, while starting every game except the season opener against Boston College.

Breen, meanwhile, was an all-region selection for the second year in a row after tallying four goals and five assists, including a goal in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Boston College.

Hofstra set a school record for wins in a season by finishing 19-3 in 2010. The Pride also set a school record for the longest winning streak (18 straight), and the most conference wins (11) by finishing 11-0 in the CAA during the regular season. Hofstra was the first team to go unbeaten and untied in CAA play since William & Mary was 8-0 in 1998. Hofstra also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 win over Connecticut, its second NCAA Tournament win in school history (including a 1-0 win over Ohio State in 2007).

Hofstra's four all-region selections will be eligible for NSCAA All-America honors, which will be announced later this week.
