Bellmore School Board Candidate: Scott Cohen

Cohen has lived in Bellmore since 1981 and started at Shore Road School.

My Name is Scott Cohen and I am running for a seat on the Bellmore School Board.

I moved to Bellmore in 1981 and attended Shore Road School, continued along to Grand Avenue and Graduated from Kennedy High School. I attended New York Institute of Technology, Nassau County Police Academy, NC Fire Academy and NC Fire-Police EMS Academy.

From 1990-1995, I was a member of the Bellmore Volunteer Fire Department. I rose from a Probationary Firefighter up through the rank of Rescue Lieutenant and Infectious disease trainer for the entire department.

From 1994 until 2009, I was as a Police Medic for the Nassau County Police Department. During my employment with the Police Department, I was awarded several commendations for Life Saving, command recognitions and top A.M.T. 3 times as well as many specialized emergency management courses. I was also a trainer for AED’s and helped to train the thousands of Police Officers who are certified to use these life saving devices. I have worked in positions from Street Medic, Field Training Officer (train and teach new police medics and police officers), Logistics, Technology, Incident Command, MCI Command and many others.

Currently, I work in the magnetic industry where I am responsible for every aspect of the company, including accounting, taxes, sales, import and export, printing presses, warehouse, logistics and more. In addition, I work on the board of directors for the AMT Children of Hope Baby Safe Haven Foundation. We are responsible for all of the Baby Safe haven laws in every state and some foreign countries.

I currently have two Children in the school system in Bellmore and have a third that will enter in the 2014-2015 school year.

I have dedicated most of my adult life to public service and feel that with my background, both in government and in the business sector, along with my ties to the community, government and education. I am uniquely qualified to bring fresh, progressive, safety and security oriented thinking to the board.
