Cops: Bellmore Man Drove Drunk, Crashed into House

A man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly drove drunk and crashed his car into a home in Bellmore, cops said.

According to police, Matthew A. Knee, 30, of Bellmore, was driving with a 50-year-old male passenger at 9:50 p.m. Saturday when he allegedly drove through a chain link fence and into a house on St. Mark's Avenue.

Both occupants were unable to exit the vehicle due to the damage and needed the assistance of the Bellmore Fire Department and the Nassau County Police Emergency Service Unit.

After an investigation, it was determined that Knee was driving while intoxicated, police said, and he was placed under arrest. Both Knee and the passenger were taken to a local hospital and were admitted with contusions to the head.

Knee is charged with third-degree reckless assault and driving while intoxicated. He will be arraigned as soon as practical at First District Court in Hempstead.
