Bellmore-Merrick CHSD Budget Approved

64.4 percent of the voting population voted in favor.

Residents of Bellmore and Merrick have voted to accept the proposed 2013-14 Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District budget with 3,193 yes votes compared to 1,762 no votes.

The budget comes in a $135,920,888, which is up 2.3 percent from the 2012-13 budget. According to documentation from the district, benefits alone account for 117 percent increase from budget to budget.

This year’s tax levy comes in at $106,814,583, which is a 3.48 percent increase from 2012-13.

If the 2013-14 budget hadn’t passed and the district needs to go on contingency, $4,589,885 would have need to be removed. This would’ve led to additional losses of positions, total elimination of summer school, sports and club cuts and the elimination of the community using building grounds.
