From juggling fun to a Chicken Tag run, students enjoy a fun-filled day.

Hundreds of students could be seen jumping, dancing and smiling in the playground at Newbridge Road School's Annual Field Day yesterday. The day was divided into various events including Chicken Tag, Tug of Fun and Cone Toss. There was also a DJ, Bellmore parent Mr. Ulmschneider who donated his time and blasted tunes for all to enjoy. Patch Chat With Mepham Valedictorian Michelle Dimino

This self-directed, humble student has known she wanted this honor since the sixth grade.

Referred to as a scholar, leader, artist, athlete, motivator and humanitarian, Mepham valedictorian Michelle Dimino has clearly made the most of her high school career. While most students would find it difficult to manage leadership responsibilities, club commitments and community involvement, Dimino has thrived. A National Merit Finalist, St. John's Women in Science award winner, president of the Italian Honor Society and secretary of the National Honor Society, Dimino's accomplishments certainly do not stop in the academic arena. She also played on the girls badminton and tennis teams, served on the Students Against Destructive Decisions executive board, was elected Class President and Student Government President for the past three …

North Bellmore District Hosts Informational Meeting About Kindergarten

Meeting at Newbridge Road School lets parents know what to expect when they send their kids off to kindergarten this fall.

On Tuesday, the North Bellmore School District hosted a meeting at Newbridge Road Elementary School for parents of incoming kindergartners. Nearly 50 families in attendance learned how to prepare their children for kindergarten and understand what their children will be learning in their first year in elementary school. "Making a connection between home and the school is a huge goal," said Superintendent Arnold Goldstein. He added that much can be done at home to enhance their experience once in school. To begin, Linda Nussbaum,  an occupational therapist at Newbridge, Martin Avenue and Dinkelmeyer, demonstrated the refinement of fine motor skills of kindergartners. She handed out scissors and coloring activities for the parents to give to…

Demographic Study Shows Shrinking Student Numbers in North Bellmore

The upcoming bond vote and the budget situation also discussed at North Bellmore Board of Ed meeting.

At the March 11 board of education meeting, North Bellmore Superintendent of Schools Arnold Goldstein announced the results of a demographic study of the school district. The study estimates that the school district's student population will decrease 66 students, from 2,163 to 2,097.     "It's really important to know these trends so we can plan accordingly," Goldstein said.     According to the study, all schools should have decreasing populations over the next four years, with the exception of Dinkelmeyer Elementary School.     Seventy new homes are being built on what had been a military operations center in North Bellmore, and the report estimates that this will add 24 students to Saw Mill Road Elementary School. Goldstein said that …

Bellmore Pulls Through for School District in Need

In the wake of a recent fire at a West Babylon school, residents seek donations of books and supplies.

Residents in Bellmore have scrambled to set up a collection site for much-needed school supplies and books for a nearby district. On Feb. 18, a late night fire ravaged through South Bay Elementary School in West Babylon. Two of the school's three wings were destroyed and nearly 400 have been displaced. While the students will be temporarily schooled in a nearby church, they need books and supplies that were not spared from the blaze. The West Babylon Fire Department, parents and alumni are seeking help from Long Islanders at Books for South Bay and on Facebook. Bellmore parents and residents have answered their call.  "We all know that if we needed help we would want the same from the other districts out here," Bellmore resident Beth …
