Most of the kids in this area go to camps because BOTH their parents work...Shouldn't there also beRead More a 'beef' with the teachers who vociferously voiced their opinion & put their foot down when the discussion broched the subject of extending the school year - all because of their 2nd jobs???...Their exorbitant salaries (for the amount of days they work & the lagging test scores they've produced) is a 'yearly' salary...Aren't they then double-dipping???...

Some how days have to be made up either by vacation or extending the school year. But now what willRead More happens if we get a bad winter this year. Last winter we were lucky (remember two years ago). Are we now going to loose the Spring Recess also? There is only two snow days. February really means nothing to me except some rest for the kids (not us). But Easter (and for others Passover) we plan to be with the family. And to add: I don't get the whole summer off.

Ummmm yes, buses ARE needed. I can not speak for any other family, only my own. My kids use the busRead More every day and need the bus to get to and from the school. So please, Tom, do not speak for anyone other than yourself and your own families' needs. @ James: I am not talking about the Elementary schools, I am talking about the Bellmore-Merrick CHS District, which include the Middle Schools and High Schools (and is what this specific article is talking about). For my family, the bus system is a necessity. Thanks MG, I await your reply so I can plan for Wed. accordingly.

There is a fuel issue with all buses for Bellmore Merrick elementray of High School. Look on MerrickRead More Rd or Sunrise there is a semi serious disaster with lack of fuel on Long island right now.

@ James: Thanks but I'm not blind or stupid. I am very well aware of the fuel situation, or lackRead More there of. I'm pretty sure my comment made that blatantly obvious. That is why MG said he will find out and let us know. Hence my inquiry as to if there will be bus service when the middle school returns on Wed. I want to know how to plan accordingly. The only schools that have mentioned about there not being bus service were the elementary schools. The middle schools have not said a word about it yet. I do not want my kids standing outside in the cold waiting for a bus that will never show. This is why I am asking. I just want to know if we should be calling around looking for carpools or if the buses will indeed show up. Not sure why this is so difficult to comprehend? It is truly a simple question. Hopefully MG will find out for us and reply before the day is out.
