Why did we have an Easter parade?...We utilzed tax-payer resources to close the streets for a bunch…Read More of idol worshipers...Then we fed them unhealthy fat food with no nutritional value...Did they wash the 'goodies' down with 16 ounce sodas?...Hasn't Mrs. Obama and Mayor Bloomberg and their health initiative taught us anything???...These people know what's good for us...Why can't we see it?

Isn't this unfair to non-Christians?...Where is the parade for the atheists, the Jews, the Muslims,…Read More the Budhists, the Seiks and the Shia? So, we're gonna utilize police overtime and clog our streets with idol worshipers?...Then, we're gonna fill the brain-washed kids with chocolate, ice cream and candy?...Don't you people realize that cupcakes are not allowed in schools? Then why should we be giving them out in public? Hasn't Mrs. Obama and mayor Bloomberg taught you anything?...Maybe you can let the kids wash down the cupcake with a 20 ounce soda!!! We have an obesity epidemic going on & the goverment is trying their best to tell us what we should and shouldn't be eating/doing...This is a disgrace!!!...Instead of marching in a parade, these kids could join a non-discriminatory sports league where they don't keep score where they hand out participation trophies at the end of the season.

Paul, very interesting link. The ARC has a CEO who makes over a $500,000 per year. I wonder how many…Read More people know that. Among other similar charities, ARC was ranked last. I knew there were better places to send your money. Tunnerltotowers.org.

More support after Hurricane Sandy.
Everyone is oblivious that South Merrick is destroyed. Yes,…Read More the houses are still standing, but they are gutted inside and the contents have all been discarded. What is Merrick doing? Nothing. Freeport, Seaford, Island Park, Bellmore, Long Beach all have civic communities and volunteer groups helping. I haven't heard of one event helping in Merrick. It's such a shame. I don't even have a Christmas tree this year.

Mr Ganci, why was this event called (as it should be!), 'Hanukkah Menorah Lighting' and the 'other'…Read More event was simply called 'Holiday Tree Lighting' instead of what it was/is - a 'Christmas Tree Lighting'??? If the Patch was consistent in patronizing the PC secularists, shouldn't you have simply called this event a 'Candle Lighting Ceremony'???

I feel that Happy Holidays is the way to go. If I know that someone celebrates a specific holiday, I…Read More will say Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah... But when the gentleman held the door for me at the store , I said Happy Holidays...when my dry cleaner carries my clothes out to the car for me, again, Happy Holidays. After all, it is the "holiday" season. And personally, I would never correct anyone that took the time to wish me a happy anything. I would just say "same to you".

I celebrate Christmas and usually say "Merry Christmas" to everyone. If I know someone…Read More celebrates Hanukkah, I'll wish them a Happy Hanukkah. There are a few people out there who will get offended if you say the wrong one so we've started using broader terms. I think it's fine to say whatever you want. Everyone has their own traditions and is going to phrase their holiday greetings as they see fit. There's no blanket term that isn't going to piss someone off. If someone greets me with "happy holidays," I'll appreciate their nice gesture and carry on with my life. Ms. DeSeve Closs shouldn't be receiving holiday wishes at all if she can't appropriately accept them. I would recommend that she just reply with "Merry Christmas" instead of correcting the person. They'll take the hint. In short, people can say what they want, and others can respond the way they want. Someone saying "happy holidays" doesn't mean they're declaring war on Christmas. They are just trying to be respectful. If you don't like it, don't reply to them. Or better yet, correct their greeting. It will make you look like you have your priorities in order.
