Merrik7 - The PCAC, parent group of the LIRRCC, was mandated by the NY state in 1981. Please see:Read More http://www.pcac.org/pcac/faq/ The LIRR had little to do with it. Most commuters consider them a Lapdog, certainly most I have spoken to. Try the LIRR Commuters Campaign for a non-profit independent group. http://www.lirrcommuters.org/

except the whole creation of it was by the LIRR, if you want a real independent body form a lobbyingRead More group or nonprofit as a watchdog. Their job is not be independent agency but an advisory board. I do not think you understand its mission or purpose. I think what you are envisioning is similar to the Tristate Transportation campaign that reviews large transportation changes like its review of hempstead turnpike as a deadly road. I do not think anyone considers them a a lapdog. They hold no power, but are just an advisory board similar to a focus group of customers. Epstein constantly is in the news criticizing the LIRR. He has called them out and in some cases embarrassed them on occasions. Having a Babylon line customer is amazing for all south shore residents. Also having an engineering degree is helpful. In addition, being from North Bellmore which is a very nice blue collar community he should be fiscally responsible as well in his opinions.

If the LIRRCC ever expects to be seen as independent they need to stop being fully funded by the MTARead More and they need to stop meeting ONLY in MTA headquarters. As it is now they seem more like a lapdog than a watchdog.

They closed a couple of weeks ago. Rumor is they were given 5 days notice to vacate, but I haven'tRead More heard why.

We have heard all sorts of word that the developer as well as Panera will be community friendly andRead More address the neighbor's concerns about traffic flow and the change of a private property to commercial zoning. Just hope its not alot of smoke being blown up our you know whats to keep us quiet. Any development of that property is of course welcome. it is most certainly an eyesore, but business is business and the developer and Mr. Panera do not live on these streets and don't know the challenges that are already faced with traffic and the fights we have had with the former businesses in those buildings(all 3 not just Viva Loco) regarding delivery trucks and parking etc. To berate our concerns as trivial is an insult. So I welcome Panera and I hope that they will be the good neighbor that we have been promised.

corporate america..this is a local enterprenuer that bought the franchise,,,employs local kids andRead More adults as managers and will take 3 awful ugly buildings that have been used for vagrants the last 3 years some of them have been broken into to steal copper and sheet metal from ..Paneras will pay real estate school taxes..general taxes and sales tax,,probably a half a million in tax contributions and provide an alternative to unhealthy fast food....while the allow local organizations to use theyre community room for meetings and over all make a wonderful cotribution to our community taking these slummy building off our main street. The nay sayer probably hasent done any homework and is probably uninformed but in todays cyber age ...everyone is an authority and can post any irresponsible opinion they may have wether or not it has any merit...let see..Corporate america replaces viva loco..closed for 2 years and in its last several years ..operated awfully ..didnt respect our building codes and had its patrons parking all around our private homes ..then leave theyr establishment and piss on my lawn...so long to that privately owned buisness that allowed theyre buildings to lat vacant and make our beautiful town look like a slum...Welcome to a new community oriented enterprenuer that will make us look like an upscale community and take 3 awful derelict buildings off the map.

we dont need more vacant buildings,,,its awful when left vacant for years ,,drags down the entireRead More neighborhood!!This is a great useage!!..I think its in the right spot and will stimulate action for nearby merchants as well,,

dear previous poster,L...I understand how you feel..but in this particular case Believe me,,this isRead More a self help project...with a goal of upgrading our community..The developer did not do this based on arithmatic and profit...so lets support it because,,If we can help ourselves and Improve the main street of our community,,we also upgrade our home values..The fact is,, that this project is an upgrade!!Its not like other projects you have seen with hi traffic,,and users that will create negative impact...try to be open minded and analyze this-!we must do something !Its very rare that a local buisness would have the funds to renovate this type of strecth because its too big..and its 3 parcels and theyve all fallen into disrepair....The surrounding homes will be upgraded as a result of this eyesore being cleared..theres no increase of traffic as the prior occupant had massive parties and catered events in total dosregard for all codes the building dept. has created over the past decades to protect us against parking in front of our homes and overflowing into the residential streets surrounding the commercial roads..as the establishment had NO parking at all..and for us as neighbors to object to this particular end user would be ridiculous as they are a perfect fir to our neighborhood...No drive thru..No alcohol..No late nite traffic..No parties..and they allow community organizations to use a room ,free of charge as well as support community events contributing food when asked,,The Panera Bread company IS community minded and when you go there to discuss an issue if there ever will be one..you will find an on site manager ready to listen and react to your needs....So please,,lets not lump this situation into the bunch of possible dissapointments youve experienced...and its firmly believed by experts that the site we will have compared to the streetfront of vacant derelict buildings that will never be rehabilitated if not for this local developer foregoing profits to improve our town, will definetly raise property values surrounding this site.

A LESS SUPERIOR LOCATION! I am glad he admits that. which is why I will be listing my home ASAP andRead More get out now before any more chains move in and turn residential lots into commercial. Reverse gentrification! Lower the FEW surrounding property values so you can move in even lower income families, one by one the values drop and you have a small isolated area with decreased home values and low class families. Which are the only ones willing to live on a commercial block.

I love Panera. But hate living off of merrick road! Every time I turn around there is oneRead More monstrosity being knocked down another going up! Every time I show up at the town hearing the builder tells me how great it will be for the community. The same old story. Build, Build Build. That guy was right we all paid a discount to live near a commercially zoned area. A discount is paid for a less superior location.

Good episode. Looks like a nice place once they lost the toxic bartender and everyone startedRead More working instead of goofing off and partying. The owner looks like a homeless person. Lose the knit cap, babe. If she's going to spend time in the restaurant, she ought to dress better and maybe wear a little makeup. Look like you take pride in yourself before you take pride in your business.
