Sunday Movies at the Bellmore Memorial Library

There is always something to do at the Bellmore Memorial Library on Sundays at 2 p.m.! There will be a concert or a new film every Sunday at 2 p.m. The community is welcome to attend.

Memoir Writing Workshop

On Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 10:30 a.m., columnist Florence Gatto and poet Beverly E. Kotch of the Long Island Writers Guild will show you how to get started writing your stories, memories and musings. The program is free and the community is welcome to attend.

Mystery Lovers Book Club

Author Reed Farrel Coleman will be at the Bellmore Memorial Library on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. He will be attending the monthly Mystery Lover’s Book Club to discuss his book, Hurt Machine. Limited copies will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Hurt Machine was named a finalist for the 2012 Barry Award in the Best Novel category.

Defensive Driving Classes

The next AARP Safe Driving class will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fee is $17 for those with an AARP card or $19 for others. On Saturday, Feb. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Melissa Chios will hold a Defensive Driving Class. The fee is $35. Sign up now at the reference desk.

Novel Nights

People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks is the book under discussion on Thursday, Jan. 10  at 7:30 p.m. Join Dee Abramson for a lively book discussion.

REEL Chat

The British whodunit, Prime Suspect, Series Two, will be shown in the library’s community room on Fridays, Jan. 11 and 25 at 1 p.m. A short discussion will follow the movie, moderated by Martha DiVittorio.

CPR Training

The Bellmore Memorial Library will host a CPR Training Class sponsored by the Bellmore-Merrick EMS on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 646-450-9851 to register. The fee is $5.

Live Animals at The Bellmore Memorial Library

On Monday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m., there will be an educational program for children and teens with live animals! Please register for this program at the Help desk.

Knitting and Crochet Club at The Bellmore Memorial Library

Enjoy an evening of crafting with a lively group of people on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. Bring your project and you will find lots of help available.

Book Sandwiched In

On Friday, Jan. 18 at 12:30 p.m., join Librarian Patti Paris for a lively talk on State of Wonder by Ann Padgett.

Stress Solutions for the NEW YEAR!

Let the Bellmore Memorial Library help you start the New Year right with a program promoting Stress Solutions on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. Bill Solz, licensed Social Worker, Janine Friedman, Holistic Health Coach and Steve Della Croce, Nutritionist will help you on your way to less stress and feeling healthy and fit!

Challenges of Today’s Relationships

On Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m., meet Relationship Expert Marcello Silva for an interactive discussion on creating better communication, empathy and compassion for you and your loved ones. Make this New Year 2013 a time for creating better relationships.

Island Songwriter’s perform on Sunday, Jan. 27

Three performers from Island Songwriters Showcase perform at the Bellmore Library on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. They are Estelle Henrich, Walter Sargent and Ken Krumenacker.  The concert is free and open to the public. Come and enjoy a free Sunday afternoon concert.

Teen Babysitting/First Aid Workshop

All teens and tweens in grades 5-12 can attend on Monday, Jan. 28 from 6-8 p.m., taught by RNs JoAnn Tanck and Georgette Basso. The class will cover babysitting techniques, first aid for children and infants, games and toys for developmental stages and more! Register now at the Help desk. The free is $3.

A certificate will be presented after completing the class and there will be a Babysitters’ Job Fair on Thursday, Jan. 31 from 7-7:30 p.m. Parents in Bellmore and surrounding areas are welcome to attend and Meet the Babysitters!

Nassau Poets

On Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m., poet Sandra Proto will read from her work. After that, it’s open mic at the Bellmore Memorial Library.

Current Events Club

On Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 2:30 p.m., join us for the library’s lively monthly news discussion moderated by local historian Jack Bilello.  The community is welcome to attend.

MEDITATION for Personal Growth

Find a peaceful and inspiring way to cope with life’s challenges. Join Greg Gordon on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. for an introduction to Meditation for Personal Growth.
