Football Coaches Get Their Due

Editor's Note: This article was written and submitted by Jason Molinet.

Football season ended with a thud – the thud of a last-second field goal block to seal Chaminade’s first Catholic league championship since 1998.

The Flyers also exorcised a decade-long team losing streak by beating St. Anthony’s, 17-16, to claim the CHSFL Class AAA crown Dec. 1. Now the accolades keep coming as Chaminade’s Stephen Boyd was one of three coaches named to Newsday’s All-Long Island football team.

Boyd, a former Nassau player of the year from Valley Stream and NFL All-Pro linebacker, lifted the Flyers to a 10-1 season.

Farmingdale’s Buddy Krumenacker and Babylon’s Rick Punzone were also named coaches of the year.

Krumenacker went 10-2 as the Dalers won the Nassau Conference I championship. Along the way, he earned his 210th career victory.

Punzone directed Babylon to a perfect 12-0 season and 48-18 win over Roosevelt to claim the Long Island Class IV title. The program later earned the Rutgers Trophy as Suffolk team of the year, a first for the Panthers.

All-State Girls Soccer

They faced off in an epic Long Island championship game decided by penalty kicks. Now they are forever linked. South Side junior striker Christina Klaum and Islip senior midfielder Morgan Santoro were named state Class A co-players of the year by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

South Side went on to win the program’s 17th state championship. For that feat, Shannon McEntee was also named state coach of the year.

Other All-State first team picks:

Class AA: Northport junior midfielder Kristin Desmond, Calhoun senior forward Michelle Iacono, East Islip junior forward Kayla Sager.

So Lu Scala never had any children so it might be safe to say you have never been to a PTA meetingRead More or a School Board meeting or a budget presentation so then you would have no idea how the money is spent good or bad. I'm sorry that your neighbors make more than you but like anything else you get what you pay for there are educational requirements for teaching and administration jobs, I'm sure you would be happy if all the school personnel could be replaced by minimum wage earners or better yet we could close all the schools after all you have been out of school for 40 years so you don't need them anymore, but thats not how it works. Why is always the uninformed that speak loudest and longest?

A bit of a surprise considering kids come home with a supply list a mile long (and average $40-$75).
