Dear Bellmore-Merrick Community Members,

As you are aware, beginning July 1, 2013, Mr. John DeTommaso will begin as our newly appointed Superintendent of Schools. We are excited about his return to Bellmore-Merrick and wish him much success as our educational leader.

As part of Mr. DeTommaso's transition to Bellmore-Merrick, the Board of Education will be working very closely with him to examine our entire educational program. We are happy to report that this process has indeed already begun.

A key component of this process will be a thorough analysis of our facilities, including our fields and grounds. At our last Board of Education meeting, and in many meetings prior, concern has been expressed relative to the condition of our fields. Be assured that the Board of Education shares this concern and is fully committed to identifying the necessary steps to move forward.

We are in agreement that this situation needs to be addressed and resolved.  We anticipate that an immediate plan of action will be outlined to address this issue in the short-term, and a more comprehensive plan will be developed to address this issue in the long-term.  We will be asking for the input of community members through a variety of means moving forward.  Once Mr. DeTommaso has officially joined our district, further information will be provided and your ideas and suggestions will be welcomed.

We know that you join with us in welcoming Mr. DeTommaso back to Bellmore-Merrick.

Sincerely,
The Board of Education
