Runoff Scheduled to Settle Tie North Bellmore School Board Race

Voters will decide tie election between candidates JoAnn DeLauter and Frank LaMagra on June 25.

A date has been set for a runoff election to decide a North Bellmore school board race that ended in a tie on May 21.

JoAnn DeLauter, president of the North Bellmore school board, and challenger Frank LaMagra were deadlocked at 799 votes apiece on election night. The runoff election to decide this seat is scheduled for June 25 with voting taking place at Newbridge Road School from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In the other North Bellmore school board race, challenger Peter Mayo unseated incumbent vice president Rosemarie Corless by 129 votes, 766 to 637.

DeLauter, who has serve five years on the North Bellmore school board, is also a trustee on the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Board of Education. LaMagra is a retired New York City Narcotics detective investigator who has lived in the North Bellmore School District for 18 years.
