The North Bellmore Coordinating Council of PTAs hosted its "Meet the Candidates Night" at Newbridge Road Elementary School on Tuesday.

Residents were given an opportunity to ask questions and address their concerns to those running for a school board seat on topics such as: the 2 percent tax cap, the closing of Jacob Gunther Elementary School, the upkeep of school buildings and ways that the school board can reach out to the community.

Candidates who are running for a school board seat are:

  • Incumbent Joe Perrone - Challengers Nina Lanci and Marc Berkowitz.
  • Incumbent Grace Cramsie - Challengers Peter Mayo and (removed).

Laurie Henneborn, co-president of the Newbridge Road Elementary School Parent Teacher Association, said that the event was insightful.

"I thought it was well run and the candidates experience or lack thereof was clear," she said. "I have certainly made my decision tonight."

Margaret Kubica, also a co-president of the Newbridge School PTA agreed.

"The discussion really gave me an opportunity to make an informed decision on who I will vote for next week," she said.

The North Bellmore School District's school board elections will be held on May 15 at the Newbridge Road School from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
