Kennedy Student Receives Award for Chemistry Research

Natalie Giovino, a senior at Kennedy High School, has been selected to receive the 2013 Ezra Levy High School Science Award, sponsored by the New York Metropolitan section of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (NY Metro AACC), for her research entitled "Resistance to the MEK Inhibitor Selumetinib (AZD6244) in Uveal Melanoma is Mediated by the Activation of AKT Through KRAS: Implications for Clinical Trial Development."

Each year the New York Metro AACC presents awards to three or four high school students who have conducted chemistry-related research projects that represent the high quality of science education and investigation available in many high schools in the metropolitan New York area. A plaque and a check in the amount of $200 accompany each award.

The New York Metro AACC will present the awards at an educational meeting to be held on Monday, June 10 from 6-9 p.m. at Mount Sinai NYU Health Center in New York where Giovino will give a presentation of her research project.
