The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District recently announced that John F. Kennedy High School senior Ethan M. Jones has been recognized as an “Outstanding Participant” in the National Merit Scholarship Corporation’s National Achievement Program.

Jones earned this prestigious honor by scoring in the top three percent of all African-American students nationwide who participated in the 2011 PSAT/NMSQT exam.

Jones is one of approximately 3,100 “Outstanding Participants” who will be referred to colleges based on their potential for academic success.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students.

What do you think of Jones’ accomplishment? Tell us in the comments below.
