Luke Massaro, salutatorian of the Class of 2012 of Kennedy High School, is a young man of warmth, intelligence, and maturity, said the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.
A National Merit Scholarship winner, Massaro is also a member of the National Honor Society, the Art Honor Society, the Math Honor Society, the Science Honor Society, and the Italian Honor Society.
As a member of the All-State Symphony Orchestra, the Long Island Strings Orchestra and the NMEA All County Orchestra, he was additionally inducted into “Tri-M” based upon his academic excellence and musical abilities.
Massaro is a four year member of Art Club, Key Club, Chamber Orchestra, Math Team, while also participating in the Gemini Youth Orchestra. He has been a member of the pit orchestra and has also worked as a member of the stage crew for the last two years.
This year, he took his turn in the spotlight, as he was a valued contestant and captain of the MSG Varsity sponsored Challenge team, which advanced to the quarter finals of competition this year.
As a four year participant in Kennedy’s authentic science research program, Massaro has dedicated a great deal of time and energy traveling, researching, and processing original scientific data under the guidance of a mentor at North Shore University Hospital.
He will be attending the University of Pennsylvania.
