JFK Students Win CARMA Awards

Submitted by JFK Schools

John F. Kennedy High School students Cameron Costanzo and Alexandra Galligan were named winners of the CARMA – Cougars As Role Model Americans – award for the third marking period by the Kennedy Student Government.

This past summer, Cameron dedicated more than 120 hours of her time helping special needs children with both physical and mental disabilities. Cameron worked with Camp Anchor, where she grew passionate about helping those in need. At the camp, Cameron helped with various recreational activities and sports, creating a fun experience for all.

Alexandra has volunteered most of her Sundays for the past two years at Winthrop University Hospital. While at Winthrop, Alexandra works at the front desk on the cardiac floor and helps assist patients by giving directions and answering phones. In addition to her time at Winthrop, Alexandra has done work with the National Federation of Temple Youth and Girl Scout Troop 971 to help children in transitional housing. She counsels those children and spends time with them at local museums and other educational venues.
