Bellmore-Merrick Students Recognized by NMSP

Twelve seniors have been designated as "Commended Students" in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP).

Twelve seniors from the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District have been designated as "Commended Students" in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP).

Kieran Barrett-Snyder, Gabriel Jay, Eric Ravens, Daniel Sconzo, Duncan Sheridan and Nicholas Skarren were recognized fromCalhoun High School, Shire Konigstein and Matthew Panzarino were acknowledged from Mepham High School and Joshua Baron, Gregory Mora, Rohan Nagpal and Aaron Plass were recognized from Kennedy High School.

The students, along with 1.5 million other entrants, took the 2012 PSAT/NMSQT in October 2012. According to the NMSP, the 50,000 students who scored highest on the test were offered the College Plans Reporting Service. 

In September, 16,000 of those students were notified that they made it to the semifinalist stage, including Aaron Goldstein and Brian Keohane from  Mepham High School, Russell Miner from Kennedy High School and Max Mogel from Calhoun High School. The remaining 34,000 high-achieving students were named Commended Students and will receive a Letter of Commendation from the NMSP to recognize their achievements.

“Congratulations to all students from Bellmore-Merrick named Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program,” Superintendent John DeTommaso said. “It is truly a testament of their hard work, dedication and commitment to academic excellence now and in their futures.”
