Bellmore-Merrick Board Takes Stand Against InBloom

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Board of Education passed a resolution demanding that data on students not be transmitted to InBloom or any other private third party.

The resolution reflects the board’s concern over a private organization, which is funded by outside companies, having control over student data. In the past, districts had to share student data with the State Department of Education, but the required information was basic. 

Systems now require districts to provide information that is more in-depth than in the past. Bellmore-Merrick has joined the ranks of districts across Long Island that are expressing their concerns with InBloom and private third-party information providers.

“One of the district’s priorities has always been and will continue to be the security of student data,”  Board of Education President Susan Schwartz said. “This resolution emphasizes the board’s continued commitment to protecting the privacy of its students and takes a stand against the potential exploitation of such data.”
