UPDATE: Burning Wire Caused 900+ LIPA Outages

The cause is currently under investigation.

Power has been restored to most of the 900 LIPA customers after Wednesday night's brief outage.

According to LIPA's Communications Director Mark Gross, "a piece of primary wire burned down right outside the substation."

The substation affected is located on Newbridge Road. The cause is under investigation.

While most customers are back, the remaining few should be back shortly, Gross added.

More than 900 Long Island Power Authority customers were reportedly without power as of 6:41 p.m. Wednesday night.

According to the LIPA outage map, a crew has been assigned to the area and an estimated restoration time of 7:30 p.m. is posted. The outages are in South Bellmore.

LIPA officials did not immediately return emails regarding the cause of the outage.

Residents in the Saint Marks Avenue area were reporting their outages via Facebook.
