Shuttle Enterprise Flies Over North Bellmore [PHOTO]

NASA spacecraft flies over the neighborhood en route to JFK Airport.

It's not everyday that you see a spaceship fly over North Bellmore, but Bellmore Patch reader, Daniel Giardino, captured this photo Friday of the Space Shuttle Enterprise passing over a gas station on Jerusalem Avenue and Bellmore Avenue on the back of a modified Boeing 747.

NASA's prototype shuttle orbiter Enterprise had been on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum since 2003, according to Fox News, but on Friday morning it made a ceremonial flight over the Tri-State area and landed at JFK airport at 11:21 a.m. on Runway 31. It will be stored in a hangar at the airport until it is placed inside the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in Manhattan in June.

Enterprise was the first Space Shuttle orbiter. It was built for NASA as part of the Space Shuttle program to perform test flights in the atmosphere.
