Members of Long Island Orchestrating for Nature (LION) are celebrating a big victory.

On Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed A.740-A/S.3753-A, a bill that allows municipalities to regulate puppy mills and local pet dealers.

"We rallied, we wrote, we called, and we even asked the governor to sign in person," LION President John Di Leonardo said. " Now that he has signed, all our efforts are rewarded."

In October, LION held a rally to urge the governor to sign the bill in front of Worldwide Puppies and Kittens, which the organization claims sells seriously sick and dying cats and dogs to the public.

Di Leonardo thanked Cuomo and everyone who stood behind LION and its cause.

"Now that the governor has signed this bill into law, we can begin passing stronger laws here on Long Island to both protect the public and animals sold in stores," he said. "Our hands are no longer tied.”
