King, Becker Win GOP Nominations

Will face Democrats Kudler, McCarthy, respectively in November.

Bellmore residents turned out Tuesday to cast their votes for several local and statewide races.

Francis Becker, longtime legislator in the 6th District, retained the Republican nomination in Tuesday's primary in the 4th Congressional District, staving off challengers Dan Maloney and Frank Scaturro for the right to challenge Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, a Democrat, in the November election.

With 96 percent of precincts counted by the Nassau County Board of Elections early Wednesday, Becker received nearly 50 percent of the votes with 10,340. Scaturro garnered 7,720 votes, and Maloney received 2,942 votes.

"I would like to thank all of the people of the Fourth Congressional District who voted for me yesterday to be the Republican nominee, and I'm blessed to have the Conservative, Tax Revolt, and Independence lines," Becker said in an e-mail statement. "With these four lines, we can finally retire Carolyn McCarthy in November."

Maloney said he was proud of the work he and his Tea Party volunteers did over the course of his campaign. He offered kind words for Becker, and stressed the need for all Republicans to come together and help Becker defeat McCarthy.

"I congratulate Fran Becker on his victory in this race and I will do whatever is in my power to assist him in defeating Carolyn McCarthy in November," he said. "We all need to unite to recapture the Congress in November."

Scaturro could not be reached for comment on this story.

The general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
