Hurricane Prep: What Supplies You Need
Begin assembling your disaster supply kit.
Although Hurricane Irene could still veer off course and spare Long Island its full force, now is the time to stock up on supplies, which are already running low at some stores, to make sure you're ready if we do get walloped this weekend. A discussion with Super Stop & Shop management in Levittown revealed that they've been stocking up on these types of goods since Tuesday in preparation for the hurricane, so they don't expect shortages.
Nab flashlights and batteries from Home Depot or try CVS. Grab a first aid kit and some toys and coloring books for the kids while you are there.
Need a new radio (and maybe some new video games or CD's)? Head to the electro-lover's paradise in Levittown, Best Buy. Need board games in case the power goes out? Target is right around the corner.
Don't want to buy? Head to your local library to take out some books and DVDs to help pass the time.
Need some new rain attire? Check Walmart in East Meadow, The Gap in Merrick or The Gap Kids in Wantagh to pick up some rain boots.
Fill your gas tank up at any of the area stations, including Sunoco, Gulf or Getty.
