Bellmore Resident Replaced on NCC Board of Trustees

On Monday, during the Nassau County Legislature meeting, Bellmore resident Richard Gutierrez was replaced by John DeGrace on the Board of Trustees at Nassau Community College.

Legis. Robert Troiano, D-Westbury, questioned the reasoning behind the decision by Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano to replace Gutierrez. Responding to a question by Legislator Troiano as to whether or not he knew how many Hispanic members were on the NCC Board, Greg May, Director of Legislative Affairs for County Executive Mangano responded, “I don’t care…”

“I think that’s part of the problem with this administration," Troiano responded. "Not only is that not a criteria, it’s not even a consideration.”

"The Democrats' efforts to slander my character by taking my words out of context are outright offensive," May told Patch in a statement. "County Executive Mangano appointed a prominent hispanic, Dr. Jorge Gardyn, to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Board...the highest position ever held by a Hispanic-American on this Board."
