After Primary Loss, Haber Endorses Suozzi

Former opponent adds endorsement in effort to unify Nassau Democrats.

One week after losing to Tom Suozzi in the Democratic primary, Adam Haber is endorsing his former opponent for Nassau County Executive.

Haber, who served on the Roslyn Board of Education and is partial owner of a Mineola restaurant, made the appearance with Suozzi supporters on Tuesday afternoon on the steps of the New York State Supreme Court building in Mineola.

"I feel the Democratic Party must come together now, to make sure the Republicans don’t sneak through again," Haber said in a statement. "This rally is about unity and I want you to all know, I am endorsing Tom Suozzi to be our next Nassau County Executive."

Suozzi pulled in about 59 percent of the vote in the primary, according to the Nassau County Board of Elections tally, setting up a rematch against incumbent Nassau Executive Ed Mangano, a Republican, who won the 2009 election by less than 400 votes.

In a farewell email to his campaign supporters, Haber said his campaign made a difference, writing that "Our small group of committed people shook things up" and "I look forward to a day when we evaluate our progress based on the least among us. Only when each and every person in our community is cared for, will we be able to applaud our efforts."

"Adam Haber has done an effective job of shining a spotlight on Ed Mangano's alarming mismanagement of our county's finances," Suozzi said in a statement. "I am honored to have Adam's support as we move forward and continue to speak to Nassau voters... and our plans for righting Nassau's fiscal ship."
