Adoptable Animal of the Week: Meet Pudding

Will you get this sweet gal out of the shelter and into a loving home?

Name: Pudding

Case Number: #5300

My name is Pudding and I am a sweet little gal looking for love! Right now I am living at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh but hope to find my forever home soon.

While I’m personable with everyone, my personality really blossoms when I’m with my special people! I was not particularly playful during my evaluation, but that's because I am pretty upset being in the shelter. I will likely be much more playful once I am in my new home. I’m a little uncomfortable with some handling (muzzle) but will tolerate it. I will readily share my food with people though.

I may get a little shy with unusual new people (limping, hooded, …), but if given a little time to adjust, I will make friends with them. Patient introductions with people who concern me, and having them give me treats, will help me get more comfortable with them. I look to my human companion for direction. Due to my shyness, I may be more comfortable in a household of teenagers and up.

While interested in meeting other dogs, I wasn’t very playful when I was evaluated – I was more interested in just making their acquaintance. I have lived with another dog in the past.

I don't know any basic commands but I'm eager to learn for a taste of my favorite treats! One thing I definitely need to learn is to walk nicely on leash. Training may help build my confidence and will help us forge a relationship. I may have some trouble with aloneness and may be a bit vocal about it. I will need to learn how to tolerate being left alone better.

I've also already been altered and I'm up-to-date on my shots.

If you are interested in adopting Pudding, contact the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter at (516) 785-5220 or come in for a visit. The shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh. Adoption hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. All adopted pets will be spayed or neutered, will receive all required innoculations and will be microchipped, all free of charge.

Are you a cat person? In honor of the nationally recognized “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month,” the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter is waiving all cat adoption fees on Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Natalie. I am so sorry to read this. I too have a little 5 yr. old dog who I love desperately...Read More and I feel your pain. There is another website for an organization that does an amazing job finding lost pets. It's LOSTMYDOGGIE.COM There is a small fee, but they get signs up all over the area and have a phone system set up where everyone in the area of where she was lost gets a PHONE CALL ALERT message to watch for Molly. They leave a phone number and their website address so if anyone has seen her or has her they know where to call. Great system! Check it out! I've never used them, but I HAVE received calls myself recently on 2 separate lost dogs and I've seen the many photos they hung up in my area in Levittown for dogs lost within a few miles of this area. In other words, they DO what they say they will do to help find Molly. Just want you to know what is out there to help you bring Molly home. My grandkids go to school around Grand and Camp Ave. We'll be watching for her! God Bless and good luck! I'm sure she will be returned to you real soon!!
