Vandalism occurred on the grounds surrounding St. Barnabas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church late Saturday night.
According to the Rev. Valentine Rebello of St. Barnabas, two concrete benches were knocked down in front a statue on church grounds.
Also, Rebello said that two azalea trees near the rectory parking area were ripped out and thrown to the ground.
"It was annoying," Rebello said. "Why do people do such things?"
The incident is believed to have occurred late Saturday night, Rebello said.
The vandalism was reported to Nassau County Police early Sunday morning and they are currently investigating the matter.
