Tire Flies from Vehicle, Strikes Pedestrian

The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center.

A pedestrian walking in the vicinity of Newbridge Road and the Southern State Parkway was struck in the head by a tire that flew off of a nearby car on Sunday afternoon, Chief Sherwood of the North Bellmore Fire Department said.

"The tire shot across the street and hit the pedestrian," he said.

Sherwood said that the victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center with a head laceration, but he wasn't "sure if there was anything more."

Several Nassau County police officers were on the scene as well. There were some delays in the area.
