A Seaford man fired a BB gun and a rifle at a makeshift target in his backyard, which borders an elementary school, police said.
Michael Marron, 55, was arrested Saturday morning at his home at 2608 Island Channel Road after police responded to a report of BB gun shots being fired from the property, police said.
A subsequent investigation by officers revealed that Marron was using a metal suit of armor, which he had up against a chain link fence in his backyard, as a target, police said.
That fence divides Marron's property from the schoolyard of Seaford Harbor Elementary School.
Police said Marron had also fired a rifle with .22 caliber bullets at the suit of armor, which was riddled with bullet holes.
Marron was arrested and also found to be in possession of cocaine and 19 hydromorphone hydrochloride pills, a derivative of morphine, police said.
Marron is charged with two counts of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of prohibitions on the use and possession of firearms. He is due to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
