Police: Hicksville Man Attempted to Run Cop Over After Resisting Arrest

A Nassau County cop was injured Sunday when a Hicksville man resisted arrest and attempted to run the policeman over, authorities said.

According to detectives, at 4:40 p.m., Muhammad Ali, 21, was located on Wexford Terrace in Fresh Meadows. He was wanted in connection with a Hicksville armed robbery on Jan. 3.

Four plain-clothed detectives identified themselves, displayed their shields and approached the vehicle Ali was in. He "violently resisted arrest," cops said, and attempted to flee the scene, crushing an officer between two vehicles.

As Ali turned towards a second officer, the cop shot him, police added.

The injured officer was taken to North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, where he's being treated with injuries to both legs. Ali was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
