A fire that was believed to have started in an oil canister behind Pizzeli's lit up the back of the building and spread into the kitchen, said Michael Collins of the North Bellmore Fire Department.
"At about 2:33 p.m., we were notified for a building fire. When we arrived on scene, the cooking oil on the exterior of the building in the drum was on fire and it had extended into the building," Collins said.
Collins told Patch the fire had then spread into the ceiling of the kitchen area. The exterior fire was quickly extinguished, as was the interior fire.
While no injuries were reported, the Health Department and the Fire Marshal were both called to the scene. The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing and is unknown at this time.
The North Bellmore Fire Department was the only fire department on the scene, accompanied by the Nassau County Police Department.
