A man was struck by a car while crossing Bellmore Avenue near the Merrick Road intersection at around 6:30 p.m. Monday.
A bystander told Patch that he witnessed the entire thing while he was at Dunkin Donuts. A woman allegedly attempted to make a left off of Merrick Road onto Bellmore Avenue when she struck the man, who was crossing eastbound. The witness added that the man was awake and alert, and even requested that the witness get his glasses while they awaited the arrival of emergency personnel.
“He took a serious bump, but I think he’s okay,” the man, who requested anonymity, said. “He was awake and conscious, so that’s definitely a good sign.”
Traffic was stalled briefly at the intersection while an ambulance took the man away. It’s not known whether the woman who hit him suffered any injuries as well.
On Sunday, another pedestrian was struck at the Bellmore Avenue and Sunrise Highway intersection. Police have not released an update on that victim's condition.
