Editor's Note: This article was written and submitted by Richard Holzhauer.

My name is Richard Holzhauer. I have lived in Bellmore for 14 years and I am running for Fire Commissioner in the Bellmore Fire District.

I am also a member of the Bellmore Fire Department, fire fighter and emergency medical technician. I am an air force veteran and member of the Bellmore Chamber of Commerce.

I know with everyone recovering from Sandy, the Fire Commissioners election is not the first thing on anyone's mind. I, like many of you, lost my one story house, a car and a small boat as a result of the storm; so I can understand what many of you are going through.

The Bellmore Fire Department performed exemplary handling over 145 fire and EMS calls in a 24-hour period during Hurricane Sandy.

I am am the owner and operator of a family run plumbing and heating business that I started over 33 years ago. I know how difficult it it is to keep cost down and continue to provide exceptional service. I would like to do the same thing for the Bellmore Fire District.

I am committed to keeping spending down within the district while continuing to provide the highest quality of fire suppression and emergency medical services.

My priorities are:

  • Standardization for all fire trucks, so that additional training is not required to transition from one similar truck to another.
  • Electronic ambulance call reports to make the transition of the patient and information more streamlined and accessible to the emergency department.
I am asking for your vote on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the Bellmore Fire House at 230 Pettit Ave. from 2-9 p.m.

Thanks in advance for you support.

Sincerely,
Richard Holzhauer
