Ice Machine Causes Fire at Red Door Spa

Sprinklers put out fire as the Bellmore Fire Department arrived on scene.

A small fire broke out at Red Door Spa early Friday morning.

According to Bellmore Fire Department Public Information Officer Vincent Scaduto, at approximately 1:59 a.m., a small fire started due to an ice machine overheating inside of the spa.

The fire filled the spa with smoke, causing the sprinkler system to go off.

The small fire was put out by the sprinkler system in the spa as the fire department arrived and did not spread past the kitchenette where it was located, Scaduto said.

"Things could have been much worse," Scaduto said.

The Bellmore Fire Department had a hose line ready as a precaution.

The spa is slated to open on April 7.

Bellmore Chief Robert Taylor was in charge of the scene and the North Bellmore Fire Department was on standby as the F.A.S.T. team.
