Allen Feldman, the former president of the Bellmore Jewish Center, was arrested on Nov. 20 and charged with second-degree grand larceny by extortion and second-degree possession of a forged instrument in connection to an incident that allegedly took place in September.

Nassau County Police did confirm the arrest, but they did not add additional details pertaining to the charges against Feldman.

Feldman has already appeared twice at First District Court in Hempstead, but in both cases, the hearings were adjourned and he was released on his own recognizance. He is due at First District Court on March 3, 2013.

This is a developing news story. Patch will provide more information when it's made available.

There is no logical explanation for your referencing the Bellmore Jewish Center in this article other than blantant ant-semitism. This man is not a member of the Bellmore Jewish Center nor has he been president for more than a decade. You should be ashamed of yourself Mr. editor.
Simon Hersch December 05, 2012 at 06:04 PM
Jonathan, I am appalled to see your comment. This is not anti-semitism. It is truthful reporting of news in our community. I recently sat with Allen Feldman in Synagogue. I am ashamed to have him as a member of our Synagogue.
FedUpRealist December 05, 2012 at 06:54 PM
Mr. Israel, was he or was he not a 'Former Jewish Center President'???...
Jonathan Israel December 05, 2012 at 07:14 PM
I don't see the relevance of his religious affiliation to this story. Placing the synagogue's name in the headline and leading with its picture. As stated he was a president many years ago. There have been many since

If the former CEO of say, Coca Cola, was arrested for embezzlement, don't you think the headline would read, 'Former CEO of Coca Cola is arrested for....' The fact that he was a former president of a Jewish Center only points out that he was ONCE a highly respected member of the community...It's standard journalism 101...
david s December 05, 2012 at 08:19 PM
Mr. Murphy I am angered at the fact that it is okay to attach one's religion to an illegal act. 9/10 times on the news a person's color is not mentioned when describing the crime unless the criminal is still at large. Attaching the Belmont Jewish center to Mr. Feldman does nothing but harm the center. Nobody attached to the Belmont Jewish center had anything to do with what Mr. Feldman did. This is a perfect example of journalism scraping bottom.
FedUpRealist December 05, 2012 at 08:48 PM
Is it "The Bellmore Center' or "The Bellmore Jewish Center'???...How does that harm the Jewish center???...I, for one, feel bad that this man may have embezzled from the congregation when HE was the president...The reporter is just putting a face on the possible victims in this man's history...And where does it mention the man's religion???...In no sentence does it say, "Feldman, who is jewish..." So, again I ask, how does it 'harm' the center???...
david s December 05, 2012 at 09:39 PM
Mr. Murphy I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful to you however when you ask the question how do we know what his religion is after mentioning that he was the president of the Bellmore Jewish center is rather foolish. It would be like saying how do that we know the Pope is Catholic. In your remark about the president of Coca-Cola, you were referring to the individuals job, not his religion or ethnicity There is a reason why we do not teach religion in public schools.
FedUpRealist December 06, 2012 at 10:10 AM
No disrespect taken...I figured my point could be misconstrued...I was merely pointing out that the establishment this joker was affiliated with was/is called "The Bellmore Jewish Center"...The word Jewish was not assigned to the man, but only to the respected establishment he was once an important part of...As such, if the proper title was 'The Jewish Coca-Cola Company', it would have been journalistically proper to identify it as such...
Angelo Angelico December 06, 2012 at 06:37 PM
Jonathan, It seems you are hyper-sensitive to the mention of your house of worship and/or religion. I am not of the Jewish Faith nor am I a member of the center or associate of the accused, so clearly I am not vested in any way to this story. That said, looking on as merely a Bellmore resident and Patch subscriber I did not find any part of the news report inappropriate or slanderous. To be quite frank, anti-Semitism did not enter my mind until reading your post. Is it possible there is something you could add to this story that would justify and help us understand the statements you have made here?
FedUpRealist December 06, 2012 at 07:15 PM
I concur with A.A...In a country where religion seems to have become taboo (just today, a city in Mississippi has banned menorahs and mangers), I think it's important to pick our battles very wisely when it comes to charges of anti-semitism....
Simon Hersch December 07, 2012 at 07:50 AM
Are we missing something here??? The fact is that Allen Feldman was arrested for several unlawful acts. It is our right as members of the Bellmore community to know who is residing around us. If Allen Feldman was charged as a pedophile then everyone would want to know where he lives and works. The police arrest someone AFTER a complete investigation of a charge against that person. I personally would like to thank the Bellmore Patch for keeping us informed about our community.

When you click on an article about someone being arrested, you want to know who it is and if it affects you or your community. I bet they mention the Bellmore Jewish Center because that's where people know him from. I guess there's also not much info since it's a developing story. I do think it's a little messed up that it's in the title and that the photo used is of the temple. If his crimes didn't happen when he was the acting president, the Bellmore Jewish Center shouldn't be at the center of the article.
ELA December 07, 2012 at 08:56 PM
I am disgusted a photograph of BJC was put with this article. Allen was the president over a decade ago and this photo has led people to the false assumption that his embezzlement was from the temple.
ELA December 07, 2012 at 09:37 PM
The Patch should remove the photograph and Michael Ganci should apologize to BJC for his implication of it's involvement.
FedUpRealist December 08, 2012 at 02:28 PM
Only those who believe in Santaprompter could/would assume such...You need to pick a better battle than this one...And, wouldn't it be prudent to go back and check the books as of when this piece of human excrement was the president???....
Michael Ganci (Editor) December 09, 2012 at 05:40 PM
We've just received a contributed photo of Feldman from a reader. I have replaced the image of the Bellmore Jewish Center. Thanks for reading, and I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekends! MG

DA: Contractor Doctored Hempstead Town Mailings A weekly look-in at news from around the Town of Hempstead. By Matthew Hogan Very funny how in this particular article posted in the Bellmore patch it doesn't seem to mention what religion this contractor practices nor what Temple what church he is a member of. Solely based on these two articles recently posted, It seems to me that Mr. Hogan might teach Mr. Gancy a few tricks on proper journalism.
FedUpRealist December 09, 2012 at 07:52 PM
Why mention Town of Hempsted???...The Town of Hempstead didn't do anything wrong...Now people will assume the T.O.H. is guilty...And why mention he was a contractor???...You've tarnished all the good people who just happen to be contractors
david s December 09, 2012 at 08:25 PM
Murphy, At the beginning of this discussion I thought you might be intelligent. I was very wrong. I'm done with this, and I'm done with the Bellmore patch.
FedUpRealist December 09, 2012 at 08:43 PM
Sorry to have offended you...But I was just pointing out the inanity of the hypersensative...I'll divide my IQ in half and still be considered above average...Such feelings of victimization is often blinding...As I said previously, with all that's going on in this mixed-up world, you really should wait for better battles than this one...
