Fire Damages Garage of Wilson Avenue Home, Firefighter Taken to Hospital

The firefighter sustained minor injuries, fire officials said.


The Bellmore Fire Department responded to a fire that started in a detached garage of a single-family home at 2440 Wilson Ave. and that sent a firefighter to the hospital late Friday night.

The firefighter sustained minor injuries, fire officials said.

According to Vincent Scaduto, public information officer for the Bellmore Fire Department, a house fire was reported around 11:37 p.m. When the fire chief arrived on the scene he saw that the detached garage was fully engulfed.

The fire was knocked down in 15 minutes and was contained to the garage.

The North Bellmore Fire Department was also on the scene, while departments from Merrick and Wantagh were on standby.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
